Join my running group, Atlanta Urban Paradise, and ‘Race for the Dream’

So, I’m going to need your help here. As a serial volunteer, I’ve found myself in a bit of a pickle. I offered to help raise money and enroll runners for the Atlanta REALTORS® Race for the Dream 5K on October 15th in Atlanta Station. Ironic if you know me…read on below and you’ll understand why.

This event benefits the Atlanta chapter of Habitat for Humanity which is an amazing organization that helps families in Atlanta who never thought they would be homeowners to actually buy and build their own homes, as a part of a community team. They also offer tons of support to help those families grow into successful homeowners too. Habitat Atlanta is actually one of the largest affordable single-family housing developers in the city and one of the largest Habitat affiliate branches in the nation. Amazing, right?! It’s also rated a Four-Star Charity by Charity Navigator, which means the group spends its money wisely.

Our goal is to raise $80,000 from the race to help continue Habitat Atlanta’s mission. Yes, it’s for a great cause and I’m excited. But there’s only one problem…I don’t run. My husband is a runner, he’s one of those guys that can just get out of bed and run a 10K without even training. It’s annoying.

Anyway, back to my running issue. I want to run this race! And, I think a great way to motivate myself is to find some fellow beginners—or experienced, for that matter—runners to join me and create a training-slash-support-running group and have a couple of training group runs each week. I’ll plan fun routes, and we can follow this great ‘Couch to 5K plan’ I found. For the more experienced runners I’m volunteering my husband to lead off a more advanced group. Kids are welcome too! My daughter will be joining me in doing the training program and race (when she’s in the mood ;).

So, what do you say? I would love to have all of you involved in one way or another:

  1. Register for ‘Race for the Dream’ 5K and join my team, Atlanta Urban Paradise, when you register. I’ll add you to my running group and send you the date and time of the first training run. No pressure with the whole training thing, though.
  2. Or, register for the race to make a donation and be done with it.

Leave a comment below to let me know you are in—of course if you’re shy about it, feel free to e-mail, text or call me personally. Let’s do this thing!!
