One of my favorite things to blog about are updates on what’s happening with the Westside development and the Beltline. I just love watching our city improve these areas! And this update includes lots of good news!

Westside Reservoir Park at Bellwood Quarry

This massive project will result in Atlanta’s largest greenspace and park, measuring nearly 300 acres and include the reused quarry site that will not only hold an important drinking water reserve but provide a beautiful lake just one mile west of Midtown. The latest news here is that the bid process is now open for builders to submit proposals to develop the park and reservoir. Their deadline is September 7th! Plans to move forward are happening fast with the lake expected to be filled by the end of 2018 and construction of the park to happen immediately after the lake is done.

Westside Trail is almost finished!

The longest stretch of the Beltline is near completion. The final pour of concrete has been laid and is now curing.  All that’s left now is the installation of landscaping, lights, trees, and signage. According to published reports, officials are still saying that the trail will open this summer. A dedication is being planned for September but it’s not yet been announced exactly when the trail will be open for traffic.

The Beltline continues…

The Northside Trail, which will connect the existing trail at Tanyard Creek Park to the Eastside Trail, is slated to start construction between 2019 – 2023. Much of the northwest side of the trail, connecting Tanyard Creek to the Westside Trail, falls along active rail line, so it will likely go under construction after 2024.

And finally…a quick update on Howell Mill Complete Street

Unfortunately, construction has been pushed back and will start May 2018. Current completion is slated for September 2019, according to Renew Atlanta latest master schedule. If you would like more frequent updates on these developments – like when the new Beltline is officially open – and more, please be sure you are following my social media posts on Facebook and LinkedIn.

I look forward to seeing you out on the trail when it opens!

Cheers,
