Known as Northwest Atlanta, West Midtown or the Upper Westside, the area has seen incredible development and investment. I love the transformation of where I live and work, and love telling you all about it.

More Townhomes

Developers seem to love the idea of townhome communities in the area. In addition to the new townhome communities I blogged about last fall, two more, and much smaller, developments are going in.

In Scotts Crossing, where Hollywood Road meets Perry Boulevard, Van Hardimon Homes is building seven standalone, three-story homes, known as Westside Crossing. The architecture is sleek and modern, and echo the new library that is across the street. Listing information states the first three homes will be ready this summer. Each home is about 1600 square feet and selling for $319,900.

In Loring Heights, Monte Hewitt Homes is building 18 upscale townhomes called Plateau West. Again, the architecture is contemporary and each unit has a roof-top terrace with fireplace and built-in grill—so cool! Around 2500 sq ft, four of the 18 are currently for sale ranging from $849,900 to $899,900.

Beer

Scofflaw Brewery is opening a second location! That’s right, our beloved brewery is opening a research and development brewery and tasting room next to Ballard Designs in The Works along Chattahoochee Avenue. Word on the street is the new location could open as soon as 2020.

Also going into The Works is a food hall, currently called Chattahoochee Food Works, that will have 30 food stalls, shops and a test kitchen, and will anchor the restaurant section at The Works.

Steady Hand Beer Co. Grand Opening Party is March 9. Yes, just around the corner from the anticipated Scofflaw Brewery, and across from Top Golf on Ellsworth Industrial, is another brewery. Steady Hand Beer Co. will open it’s new taproom on March 9, so get your tickets now to celebrate the new space with beer, BBQ, and live music.

Traffic

Howell Mill Complete Street Project is a go! For awhile there, I was nervous this important project to improve traffic and safety along the Howell Mill corridor was going to be shelved because of the lack of funds in the Renew Atlanta Bond and TSPLOST programs, but Renew Atlanta officials recently released three scenarios for spending the bond funds, and the Howell Mill Complete Street project is fully funded in all three scenarios. Whew!

Originally slated to be completed last summer, the new timeline says construction on the project will start the winter of 2021 and finish up the fall of 2023. Just a… few… more… years…

Northside Drive bridge replacement over Peachtree Creek: GDOT plans to replace the 90-year-old Northside bridge over Peachtree Creek during the summer of 2020. Originally slated to take 4 1/2 – 6 months, GDOT has committed to work around the clock to complete the work in 90 days. Area residents—including yours truly—are working with the city to brace for the traffic nightmare that will ensue while the bridge is out.

If you are interested in learning more about any of these housing developments or finding your ideal place on the Upper Westside, I’d love to help! Email me at mhatch@beacham.com, or text or call at (404) 219-5968.
